Group Therapy

Recovery Was Never Meant to Be Lived Alone
One of the greatest consequences of compulsive sexual behavior is isolation.
Many men spend years believing they are the only one struggling. Shame convinces them to hide, secrecy becomes normal, and recovery begins to feel like something they must accomplish alone.
Ironically, the very isolation created by addiction often becomes one of the greatest obstacles to lasting recovery.
Group therapy offers a different experience. It provides a place where honesty replaces secrecy, accountability replaces isolation, and genuine relationships become part of the recovery process.
Why Group Therapy Matters
Individual therapy provides space to understand your story, process painful experiences, and develop a personalized recovery plan.
Group therapy adds something that individual work cannot fully provide.
Within a healthy recovery group, members have opportunities to:
-
Practice honesty in real time.
-
Learn that they are not alone in their struggles.
-
Receive encouragement from others who understand.
-
Develop greater emotional awareness.
-
Build healthy accountability.
-
Give and receive meaningful support.
-
Experience authentic connection without hiding.
For many men, these experiences become some of the most transformative parts of recovery.
More Than a Weekly Check-In
The groups offered through Gathered Embers are designed to be intentional, structured, and growth-oriented.
While members have opportunities to share openly about their lives and recovery, the groups also include education and discussion around topics such as:
-
Understanding the cycle of compulsive sexual behavior
-
Emotional awareness and regulation
-
Childhood attachment and developmental experiences
-
Trauma and unhealthy coping strategies
-
Shame, vulnerability, and authenticity
-
Healthy masculinity
-
Relationships and intimacy
-
Boundaries and accountability
-
Spiritual formation and emotional maturity
The goal is not simply to stay sober—it is to become a healthier, more integrated person.
A Safe Place for Honest Conversation
Many men arrive feeling anxious about joining a group. That is completely understandable. Healthy group therapy is not about being put on the spot, judged, or pressured to share before you're ready.
My role is to create an environment marked by respect, confidentiality, honesty, and encouragement. While group members are invited to participate openly, trust develops over time. Most participants discover that the fear they felt before joining gradually gives way to relief as they realize they no longer have to carry their struggles alone.
Faith & Recovery
Gathered Embers is a Christian counseling practice, and the groups reflect that foundation.
Christian faith is woven thoughtfully into the recovery process—not as a substitute for clinical care, but as part of understanding identity, grace, repentance, community, and lasting transformation.
Whether discussing Scripture, emotional health, or the practical realities of recovery, our desire is to help participants grow both psychologically and spiritually in ways that support genuine, lifelong change.
Who Is Group Therapy For?
Group therapy may be a good fit if you:
-
Feel stuck in recurring cycles of pornography or compulsive sexual behavior.
-
Are tired of trying to recover on your own.
-
Want greater accountability and support.
-
Desire deeper emotional growth, not simply behavioral change.
-
Value recovery within a Christian framework.
-
Are willing to engage honestly and respectfully with others pursuing the same goals.
An Invitation
Recovery is difficult to sustain in isolation.
The hope behind Gathered Embers is found in its name: embers gathered together produce warmth that a single ember cannot sustain on its own.
If you're interested in learning more about upcoming recovery groups or whether group therapy would be a good fit for your stage of recovery, I'd be happy to talk with you during a consultation.
